Academic Development

CCSD counselors assist students in setting academic goals, enhancing organizational skills, and planning their educational pathways. At the middle and high school levels, counselors help students create and maintain online academic plans that align with graduation requirements and post-secondary aspirations. Role of School Counselors

CCSD school counselors serve as mentors and advocates, addressing a wide range of student needs—from academic concerns to personal challenges. They provide individual counseling, conduct classroom lessons, facilitate group discussions, and offer immediate assistance during crises. Their holistic approach ensures that students receive comprehensive support to thrive both in and out of the classroom.

Foreign Exchange Program

Inbound Foreign Exchange Students:

All inbound foreign exchange students are approved by the Guidance and Counseling Department. The District accepts foreign exchange students under one student visa program administered by the U.S. Department of State in Washington, D.C.

J-1 Visa Program

A foreign student who contracts with a foreign exchange organization, authorized by the State Department, who places the student in the custody of a host family in the United States for one year. The student attends the local high school and then returns home at the end of the year. The J-1 Visa is not renewable. The student’s entry into the United States is sponsored by an authorized foreign exchange organization. Students who enroll as a part of the J-1 Visa Program do not pay tuition to the school district.

F-1 Visa Program

The United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) requires educational institutions to be approved members of the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) in order to issue an I-20 form accepting students on F-1 visas. CCSD does not accept any international students applying for F-1 visas. Any inquiries for F-1 or I-20 forms should be directed to the Guidance and Counseling Department.

Outbound Foreign Exchange Students

The Clark County School District is unable to assist with the organization, promotion, or sponsorship of students interested in studying abroad as outbound foreign exchange students. These duties are the sole responsibility of the students, their parents, and their selected foreign exchange organization.

The Council on Standards for International Educational Travel (CSIET) maintains a list of approved foreign exchange organizations that parents and students may want to consult before selecting an exchange organization. The listing may be found at Study Abroad.
