Elementary Physical Education
The elementary physical education program is a movement-based, integral component of the total educational experience. The aim of physical education is the development of physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially fit citizens through the medium of physical activities. All students will engage in movement and lifetime fitness activities at moderate to vigorous levels for a minimum of 50% of the instructional time. In addition, students have needs for respect, accomplishment, dignity, expression, and control of the body. The ability to move well is an important part of developing self-confidence, and physical education can assist students in becoming efficient, effective, and expressive movers. The K-5 physical education curriculum is aligned to the Nevada Academic Content Standards in Physical Education.
Middle School Physical Education
The middle school physical education program provides students the opportunity to develop a health-enhancing level of physical fitness. Students engage in movement and fitness activities at moderate to vigorous levels for a minimum of 50% of the instructional time. Through participation in physical activities, students develop motor skills, movement patterns, and safety within the course. Health-enhancing fitness concepts are explored through personal goal setting and self-evaluation.
High School Physical Education
The high school physical education program provides students the opportunity to develop a health and skill-enhancing level of physical fitness and to promote a positive approach toward personal health. Students engage in movement and fitness activities at moderate to vigorous levels for a minimum of 50% of the instructional time. Through participation in physical activities, students execute motor skills, movement patterns, and safety within all physical education courses. Health and skill-enhancing fitness concepts are explored through personal goal setting and self-evaluation. Additional opportunities such as personal fitness and wellness, physical conditioning and weights, lifetime sports and recreation and functional fitness course are an integral part of a comprehensive physical education program.
