Unwrapped Science Standards in Curriculum Engine

Unwrapped Science Standards in Curriculum Engine

As CCSD science teachers have gained a deeper understanding of the Nevada Academic Content Standards (NVACS) for Science, the unwrapped standards from the initial process were enhanced by including Evidence Statements. During the spring and summer of 2019, a task force of CCSD science teachers reviewed Evidence Statements to promote students’ mastery of the NVACS for Science. The Evidence Statements were written by discipline-based teams of scientists and educators, including many of the writers of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).

The following areas have been enhanced within the unwrapped standard templates and differ from the initial unwrapped standard categories.

What do I need to know?

  • Learning Targets-Updated with Evidence Statements. The Evidence Statements describe what students should be able to do at the end of instruction. These statements include observable and measurable components that satisfy the NGSS performance expectations.

How do I teach and assess this?

  • Textbooks/Instructional Resources-Links for sample units with teacher and student guides are posted in Science 6, Science 7, Science 8, Biology, Geoscience, and Physical Science.

What supports are available?

  • All K-12 science professional learning sessions incorporate the use of the Evidence Statements as atool in planning for standards-based instruction. Enterprise Learning Management System, keyword: science.
