The Special Education Program provides training and technical assistance to school districts, educational agencies, parents, and other groups to support schools in meeting the needs of diverse learners, including students who are disabled or those in need of special education services. Specific services include:
- Planning, implementation, and evaluation for professional development activities related to serving special education students and their families
- Information dissemination of legal requirements and implementation of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)
- Working with family members of children and youth with disabilities
- Technology resources for diverse learners, including those who have disabilities
- Identification and information network on best practices in the assessment, instruction, and evaluation of students with disabilities
